Ackson Tyson Mwale is a lecturer of sociology and research methods. He holds a Master of Science in Sociology from Stockholm University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Demography from the University of Zambia. He is currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Glasgow. His expertise lies in gender, poverty, inequality, climate change, and One Health, focusing particularly on human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) with more than a decade of experience conducting both quantitative and qualitative research. His recent research applies intersectionality, vulnerability, gender performativity, and social systems theory to understand how social and ecological factors shape the risk of sleeping sickness and access to care. He has contributed to several interdisciplinary projects addressing social determinants of health and evaluation projects on social protection, poverty, gender analysis, maternal and reproductive health.
At the University, he lectures in sociology and research methods in the Department of Social Work and Sociology. His current scholarly interests include One Health, climate change and disease ecology, and gendered vulnerabilities in health systems.
