Biography

Prof. Andrew Malata Phiri is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Studies, School of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Zambia (UNZA). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences (2014) from the University of the Nottingham in the United Kingdom, as well as an MSc degree in Veterinary Parasitology (2004) and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree (2000) from the University of Zambia. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methodology (2005) from the Danish Bilharzias Laboratory in Denmark.

Prof. Phiri has significant experience in Parasitology research, administration, and postgraduate student supervision and mentoring. He is the current Assistant Dean (Research) in the School of Veterinary Medicine at UNZA.

  • Treatment and control strategies of parasitic diseases
  • Monitoring and evaluation of programme effect and supplementary components of successful helminth control;  
  • One health understanding of neglected tropical diseases caused by zoonotic parasitic agents
